Welcome to My Personal Page
The Wheeling SleepOut is an event organized by Youth Services System Inc. and National Safe Place to raise awareness and money to address the problem of runaway and homeless youth in the Ohio Valley.
Funds raised from this event go to help Youth Services System support youth in transitional living facilities in the greater Wheeling area. The kids may live in Youth System Services housing facilies or be supported where they are. They are also helped with basic living, employment, and financial skills.
1 out of 30 younger kids will experience some sort of homelessness during the school year. The odds change to 1 out of 10 for older teens. As an adult, my uncle suffered from undiagnosed mental health issues and lived homeless for many years. He just vanished. We had no idea where he was until years later. We were very grateful to learn that he eventually found help, though it was too late for him. The homeless, whether they are adults or kids, are real people with real emotions and needs. Look at your kids or your grandkids can you imagine them homeless. It doesn't take much of a financial emergency to push many families into homelessness.
In addition, to the McFarland, Kowalski, Kalb, and Compton clans, our team has some very special members in it. Seven are international exchange students from Greece (Athina), Poland (Julia), Mongolia (Buka), Spain (Daniel), Germany (Max), and Nepal (Umesh). They will be teaching us about homeless youth in their countries and what sort of things are being done to help those kids.
Please help support Youth Services System and our team Light Up the World. All donations are tax-deductable.
